Sew your way into the festive season

Get ready for a night full of creativity, fun, bubbles and cheese! Whether you are decorating your tree, sprucing up your home, or making thoughtful handmade gifts, this workshop is the perfect way to kickstart your holiday season!

We will be sewing Christmas ornaments, bunting, stockings and more - festive projects to add a personal touch to your holiday décor.

All levels of sewing experience are welcome

Please note: this is not a “learn to sew” class, if you’re new to the craft, check out our Machine Sewing Beginner Course

We will provide Christmas-themed fabrics, ribbons, beads and other festive materials, but feel free to bring any special items you would like to use.

What is covered in this class

  • We will be making a variety of Christmas inspired projects

  • Cutting from basic patterns 

  • A variety of projects suitable to all levels of makers 

  • A fun and festive night with bubbles and cheese

What you will need

  • Sewing Machine (We have a few that we can loan out, first in best dressed :) ) 

  • Fabric Scissors

  • Pins

  • Tape measure

  • Fabric marker 

  • Rasant or Gutterman Sewing Thread 

  • Stitch Unpicker 

Don’t worry if you’re missing a few tools - you can borrow what you need from the teacher.

Plus, everyone takes home a goodie bag with a surprise crafty treat from Bronnie!

Machine Sewing for Beginners Workshop

Our beginners sewing workshop is a great introduction into this life skill whilst having a lot of creative fun along the way. 

Learn to sew in a small group and relaxed environment. 

This course is suitable for absolute beginners or as a refresher course for those who haven’t sewn in a while. 

What is covered in this class:

  • How to measure, mark up and cut your fabric for the envelope cushion cover.

  • How to use cutting tools for a neat finish

  • Learn how to sew in a straight line

  • Learn how to set up your sewing machine, wind the bobbin and thread the machine

  • How and when to use different stitches such as straight and zig-zag

  • Hem edges to create a neat finish

  • Learn how to secure raw edges from fraying without needing an expensive overlocker

  • How to make a cushion cover 

Throughout the workshop, Bronnie will share her knowledge and tips with you to help make your introduction to sewing as enjoyable as possible. Leave the class feeling confident with your new sewing skills!

If you'd like a cushion insert for your cover, these can be purchased from Bronnie for $10. Please let us know in advance. 

What you will need: 

  • Sewing Machine 

  • 1/2 meter of woven cotton

  • Fabric Scissors

  • Pins

  • Tape measure

  • Fabric marker 

  • Rasant or Gutterman Sewing Thread 

  • Stitch Unpicker 

  • 1/2 metre of woven cotton fabric to make a cushion 

  • Cushion insert 

A beginners sewing kit can be purchased from us fo $45

Cushion inserts can be an upcycled one from home, Spotlight or from us

This course is suitable for absolute beginners or as a refresher course for those who haven’t sewn in a while. 

*During COVID: Students studying on-site at NSCC will be asked to assist their tutor in a post-course clean down of the room & anything used during this time. Please understand we are putting in strict protocols across the board to ensure the safety of our entire community.

Materials List

• You will need to bring your own machine, the manual or booklet for your machine, and any accessories that come with the machine. • Thread - please only buy good quality thread, I suggest Rasant or Gütermann Sew-All Thread in a neutral shade • Tape measure • Fabric Scissors • Thread snips or embroidery scissors • Seam Ripper • Pearl headed pins • 1/2 metre of woven cotton

Cost: $275 / CREATIVE KIDS VOUCHER ACCEPTED

A kids sewing course to introduce them into this life skill whilst having a lot of creative fun along the way.

They can bring along their own machine or use one of ours.

We have a set program for beginner students so they can learn all the basics including to how to set up their own machine, how to cut fabric, construct seams, straight stitch, zig zag stitch and how to finish off. The teacher will provide materials for their first project. 

For students that have already done one of Bronnie’s courses or are a confident sewer, they can choose their own project based on their skill level. If not sure, Bronnie will have plenty of suggestions for you. 

For this level students will need to purchase their own materials required for their project. 

Join us and be part of a lovely small group with plenty of individual attention from the teacher, be creative, learn to sew, chat and make some new friends.
